There are some key facts left out of the mainstream media regarding this ugly event; such as the attackers were black and the man who was beaten to death was white, and was not the driver in the accident. Many at the street party had been drinking during the Juneteenth black celebration during a steamy hot afternoon in Austin.
The killing was at the Booker T. Washington projects in East Austin. Both victims were white. There is no sign a 2-year-old boy was hurt.

Austin police are under pressure now to find some answers about this horrible killing that glares of race hate. 7-06-07– Golden Gloves boxer Kurtlis Calvin “lucky,” a now, not so lucky black man has been arrested and is being held on manslaughter, theft and assult. Residents of the Booker T. Washington Terraces project told a Houston Chronicle reporter that the parking lot was filled with party goers at the Juneteenth Celebration put on by the City of Austin on June 19. A group ranging from five to 20 pepole were invluved in assults on the driver, Victor Medel as well as the murder victim
Imagine if a crowd of white men did this to a good Samaritan black man? That would be front page news and be repeated around the clock for weeks on the cable networks.
David Rivas Morales died defending the driver who accidently struck a 2-year-old boy who ran in front of the car at a crowded Juneteenth party. There could have been anywhere up to 20 attackers reported to be black.
The car in which Morales, 40, was a passenger had entered an apartment complex’s parking lot with a lot of party goers gathered in parking lot, when it struck a 2-year-old boy, officers said. The boy was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There is still no official ER report of a visit.
The driver got out of the car to check on the child and was confronted by several people, Piatt said. When they attacked the driver, Morales got out of the car to his friend and was attacked as well. Police said no guns or knives were used.
The driver got away and is cooperating with investigators. Too bad he didn’t leave with his friend.
Police estimated 2,000 to 3,000 and a woman who lives at the complex said hundreds who had been at a Juneteenth festival filled the parking lot and street.
Juneteenth is an African American celebration that commemorates Texas slaves getting the word that they had been freed.
Margaret Morales said a young boy came to her door to tell her that her brother was lying on the ground outside. She found David Morales, sprawled on the pavement 100 feet from her townhouse, battered and choking on blood.
She said her mother came running after hearing her screams, but police wouldn’t let either of them get close to him.
Police arrived one minute after receiving a 911 call, by which time the beating had stopped, Chovanetz said. But the Morales family complained that medical help was slow in coming.
Chovanetz said witnesses told police that three or four men attacked Morales, knocking him to the ground. A man got out of another vehicle and hit Morales again, Chovanetz said.
David Morales arrived at the hospital about 35 minutes after the 911 call was received, said Warren Hassinger, Austin-Travis County Emergency Services spokesman. Emergency officials said police ordered them to wait until the area was secure.
Several hundred people had filled the parking lot and street as the daylong festival at a nearby park ended and spilled over into the surrounding neighborhoods, said Katherine White, a Morales family friend who lives in a townhouse next door to where the beating took place.
Margaret Morales said her brother, who was staying with her, was a painter on his way home from work. The driver, whom she knew only as Victor, picked him up and dropped him off everyday, she said.
The Morales family remembered David as a caring brother who loved the San Antonio Spurs and was thrilled when they won the NBA title last week. Earl White, Katherine’s brother, said David Morales enjoyed sitting on the porch, watching the neighborhood children play in the parking lot.
“I just want the people caught and brought to justice,” another sister, Elizabeth Morales, said. “I want them to feel the same pain that they caused my brother.”
Update: This blogger is tracking attacks on a white bus driver in Milwaukee. Note that there is no mention of the thugs race. You have to read between the lines.

Hi Mick,
These stories often don’t make the rounds except online and on am radio. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that these black on white crimes are covered up but they are ignored and downplayed (ok, what’s the difference) by the press because they can potentially get very messy and no one wants to be called a racist. The lack of coverage on these crimes (what about the white couple that got raped and killed this spring by four black men in the south?) is another example of how craptastic the political correctness movement was/is and how it lets people look the other way when they don’t know what to say.

Some of it is the PC AP style rules of not mentioning race if there is nothing to add to the story; in the case of apparent hate crimes based on skin color, the ugly side of black racisim is being covered up by the mainstream media, in my opinion. The test is always so simple, just reverse the race of the victim and the criminal. Fortunately we still have am radio and now blogs. –Mick

Ok, point taken. It’s certainly taboo in the mainstream media to take on black racism. And this is an important issue. To even bring it up in some circles labels you as a racist, especially in places like Portland. The fact remains is that there is black/nonwhite racism and the fact remains that many whites don’t want to believe this is an issue because they will have to take a stand on it. A hate crime is a hate crime. This is such a touchy issue, though. Liberals and Conservatives alike don’t want to go there because they will be labeled and attacked and even destroyed if they do.
So it’s just another issue that’s exists in the nether regions until someone has the balls and the cred to tackle it. Maybe you. Still, I don’t think it’s a cover up. I think it’s sweep under the rug cause I don’t wanna deal with it.
Portlandprincess, you are well spoken and very accurate in your analysis. White middle class people can’t bring up black racism or they will be destroyed. You can’t even bring it up with friends and family members. That’s how little freedom of speech and thought we have left. Sweeping it under the rug is just a nice way of saying cover up, in my opinion.

The supposed child victim is a convenient fiction. The child has been described as 2, 3, and 4 years old, and both a boy and a girl. For awhile you could listen to all of the 911 and dispatch calls that took place that night. At first there was talk about two victims. But, no pedestrian accident victim was ever found. They say that the child was taken to the hospital, but there was no way to get out of the apartment complex before Morales was taken, due to the crowds. And police and rescue personnel never found a child accident victim. They had a second ambulance standing by, but there was no victim found. So that claim is a lie.
The child is an invention of those who would say or do anything to avoid acknowledging that this was a purely racially motivated attack. If you think that’s far fetched, check out the videos of the Milwaukee beating after their Juneteenth. That man also looked Hispanic, but is probably Armenian. The crowds were going from car to car apparently looking for someone to beat. When they found him, the crowds converged around the car, broke out the windows, pulled him from the car, and began beating him severely. He has a fractured eye socket that requires surgery, and other facial injuries. It appears that he was only saved from the same fate as Morales by the appearance, only minutes after the attack, by mounted police. Doesn’t it seem reasonable to assume that a parent or family member of the child would have necessarily been present when the altercation erupted? Surely these people would be the prime suspects, would they not? And if they were not the instigators, they would have to have been at the scene. And yet, police are completely baffled. And, isn’t it curious that this story has completely disappeared from the media? I mean if a black person were beaten to death by a crowd of white people, would the story just completely and totally vanish as this one has? Paris’ 3 week jail stint is just so much more important, isn’t it? Is there some reason why Morales life and death is less important than the pregnant woman who was murdered by her boyfriend?

Most whites have been brainwashed into believing into a diverse and multi-cultural society by utopians. Multi-Culturalism is nothing but the destruction of your own culture. In this case, white culture. In 1998, Bill Clinton was giving a speech at a university and he said, “In 50 years the whites will be a minority.” Guess what the mostly white crowd did? They stood up and clapped. Do they realize what that means? If they did they certainly wouldn’t clap. I dont think these things are covered up for a specific reason, I beleve the press just dosent get the kind of reaction for a black on white crime as a white on black crime. There just dosent seem to be enough people that think this is a growing epidemic, and there really is no voice for these people dealing with black on white victimization, therefore its not on the shoulders of the press to tell us everytime something like this happens, it is on the white race as a whole to not continue to be silent on these kinds of issues, to not be a victim anymore. Statistics show that far more white people are victimized based on their race than persay an african amercian. Further more for some reason unknown to me hispanics are added into the national statistics for white on african american hate crimes, so those numbers caculate both races as one.What i believe needs to happen is the white community needs to stand up and not let these crimes get washed away and forgotten.We need to demand that our judical system untilize the laws we have in regards to hate crimes, and actually prosocute these people, be it black or white- hate and violence should never be tolerated.

A judge on Friday denied a request to release a black teenager whose arrest in the beating of a white classmate sparked this week’s civil rights protest, by blacks in Louisiana.
Mychal Bell’s request to be freed while an appeal is being reviewed was rejected at a juvenile court hearing, denying him any chance at immediate bail, a person familiar with the case told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because juvenile court proceedings are closed.
Earlier, Bell’s mother emerged from the hearing in tears, refusing to comment.
It’s hard to imagine what would happen if it were six white teens who beat a black student to near death.
There is deep, race-based hate in Louisiana.
Bell, 17, was convicted of aggravated second-degree battery, which could have led to 15 years in prison. But his conviction was thrown out by a state appeals court that said he could not be tried on the charge as an adult because he was 16 at the time of the beating.
“This is why we did not cancel the march,” said the Rev. Al Sharpton, an organizer of Thursday’s rally along with the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the NAACP. “When they overturned Mychal’s conviction, everyone said we won.”
Jackson said in an interview Friday that federal intervention is needed to protect Bell’s rights. Sharpton said he has scheduled meetings in Washington with congressional leaders to discuss the Jena Six case.
The incident was followed by fights between blacks and whites that culminated in the attack on Justin Barker, who was knocked unconscious on school grounds. According to court testimony, his face was swollen and bloodied, but he was able to attend a school function that night.
Five of the teens were originally charged with attempted second-degree murder – charges that have since been reduced for four of them. The sixth was booked as a juvenile on sealed charges.

The media, by avoiding the touchiness of minority on white racism, prevents minorities from seeing that racism goes both ways.

If hate crimes were removed don’t you think people would create more crime if they think they can get away with it? Black vs. White hate crime seems to get more serious everyday, but nothing is done about it. Like Mick said, if it was a white vs black crime, it would be all over the news probably with the title “the Civil War all over again”. What happened in the past should stay in the past. In my opinon, I feel blacks are so hatred towards whites because of how they were treated 70 years ago, or even 150. Oh wel,l is that our fault? No! In my eyes there are blacks and those that use the N word. Most blacks are respectful and get along with any color and are not racist. The N word types are the ones who talk shit, push around and start problems with different races because they think they should be the only ones here in the U.S. What the? What amazes me is that several of the media reports about violence at Juneteenth Celebrations were later found out to have happened after the festival ended and in areas outside the festival sight. In several cases police and city officials later apologized for affiliating random violence to their Juneteenth Festivals.
It was wrong to blame the violent actions of a few misguided folks on the Juneteenth Festival. The media is once again guilty of trying to place negatives on anything affiliated with something constructive in our community.
Year after year the national media has ignored coverage of the celebration of Juneteenth. Yet, when an opportunity presents itself to put out bad publicity with unsubstantiated reports about violence at Juneteenth events, all of a sudden Juneteenth is all over the news. I have yet to see a positive report about the National Juneteenth Holiday Campaign or interviewing national Juneteenth leaders about the significance of Juneteenth in American history.
What about violence at “4th of July” celebrations, or even that infamous St. Patrick’s Day Massacre, Al Capone, et. al.? The national media is again showing itself to be biased toward African-Americans.
Juneteenth is America’s 2nd Independence Day celebration. 29 states recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday or state holiday observance, the District of Columbia, as well as the Congress of the United States.
Together we will see Juneteenth become a National Holiday in America!
